Coordination of benefits information now available to streamline eligibility and billing

We have enhanced the coordination of benefits (COB) information available through our digital tools. This update will make it easier for you to see any additional payer coverage details available, reducing the need to call.

What has changed

COB is now integrated with Application Programming Interface (API) and the UnitedHealthcare Provider Portal under Eligibility. This information is primarily available for UnitedHealthcare commercial plans. Additional enhancements for UnitedHealthcare® Medicare Advantage, UnitedHealthcare Community plans and UnitedHealthcare Individual Exchange1 plans are coming soon.

Importance of COB

Access to COB information will allow you to easily coordinate benefits for our members. When a member has multiple health insurance plans, COB helps the plans work together to pay claims. This helps you understand what the member needs to pay and avoids overpayments or underpayments.

How to check COB

View COB through the UnitedHealthcare Portal:

  • Go to UHCprovider.com and click Sign In at the top-right corner
  • Enter your One Healthcare ID
  • Select Eligibility tab
  • Enter the search criteria
  • Click “Verify Eligibility” button
  • Scroll down to view Additional Coverage and Coordination of Benefits

Resources

  • Access the Eligibility and Benefits course for more information about using COB in the portal. To directly access the COB section, go to Menu, then Policies Information Features or click the Search bar and type “Coordination of Benefits.”
  • Learn more about using API for digital claims and benefits

1Also referred to as UnitedHealthcare Individual & Family ACA Marketplace plans.
