February is Age-related Macular Degeneration and Low Vision Awareness Month

February 2024

Age-Related Macular Degeneration (ARMD) is the leading cause of blindness among older Americans, but new treatments have dramatically changed the course of this disease over the last 10 years, making ARMD more manageable than ever before. During ARMD Awareness Month in February, the American Academy of Ophthalmology is reminding people with ARMD that they can save their vision thanks to recent treatment advances, but early detection is a critical first step.

Training

Take our free COPE accredited CE course on the Updates in the Management of Macular Degeneration today. Optical collection opportunity

Bryan and Bradford Manning are the Two Blind Brothers who were diagnosed with Stargardt disease, a form of macular degeneration, when they were children. This video explains their story. They’re partnering with L’Amy America to manufacture sunwear on twoblindbrothers.com and will launch an optical collection this year. The sunwear will be available direct-to-consumer via their website. L’Amy has partnered with Bosma Enterprise, a non-profit organization that provides meaningful employment for people with vision loss, to do the kitting for the sunwear.

They donate 100% of their profits, including profits from the sunwear, to research through organizations like Foundation Fighting Blindness. Plus, a portion of the profits from the optical collection will also be donated. If you’re interested in obtaining the optical collection for your practice, contact L’Amy America at 800-243-6350.
