Lab spotlight ― understanding the different types of lab orders

The following information is helpful for understanding the different types of lab orders. Remember each of these options are available only if allowed per the member’s benefit. Please verify member eligibility and benefits prior to rendering services.

• Edged lenses – Edged lenses should only be ordered if our lab completed the original lab order. As a rule, the lab saves the archived pattern up to 18 months from the original order. Once you receive the edged lenses, insert them into the member’s frame.
• Patient-supplied frame – When ordering patient-supplied frames, you must send the member’s frame to the lab to insert the lenses. To help the member get their eyeglasses back promptly, please send the frame to the lab as soon as possible.
• Uncut lenses – When placing lens-only orders, you will receive the uncut lenses and be able to complete the member’s order in your finishing lab. Uncut lenses are a great option to help reduce turnaround times.
